Foreword

IT IS A PLEASURE FOR ME to write this introduction for one of the truly great softball pitchers of alltime, Ty Stofflet.

Although I played fast pitch earlier in my career, I never got a chance to see Ty pitch. I wish I had. I can assure you, however, that his exploits and achievements were well known on the West Coast.

It is fitting and appropriate for a book to be written about Ty’s career. Ty learned the value of hard work as a teenager and, with the help of his Dad, Harold, honed and refined his skills to become one of the game’s best in a career that spanned 40 years.

Ty’s accomplishments, as you would imagine, generated considerable media coverage and helped boost the ASA’s Men’s Major Fast Pitch program. Ty not only was a sportsman on the field but off the field as well. Although now retired as an active player, he still finds time to tutor aspiring pitchers in his hometown of Coplay, PA.

In November, Ty will be inducted into the ASA National Softball Hall of Fame during our National Council Meeting in Mobile, AL. It is for a career that will be difficult to equal, let alone surpass.

Ty indeed was “Softball’s Lefty Legend” and his induction into the ASA National Hall of Fame is a fitting recognition for an athlete who time and again thrilled fans from the eight-foot circle.
